    Who can you sponsor?

    • • Spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner
    • • Dependent child (or child you plan to adopt): must be 21 and younger
    • • Parents and Grandparents: father, mother, grandfather or grandmother
    • • Orphaned Relatives: brother, sister, nephew, niece, grandson or granddaughter, who are orphaned, under the age of 18, and not married or in a common-law relationship
    • • Other relative: *only Lonely Canadians are eligible to sponsor (have no other family living in Canada)

    Who is eligible to sponsor their spouse, partner, or child

    Sponsorship of a spouse, partner, or dependent child is permitted if
    • ➔ You are older than 18 years old.
    • ➔ You are an Indian registered in Canada under the Canadian Indian Act, a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident of Canada.
    • ➔ If you are a Canadian citizen who currently resides outside of Canada, you must demonstrate that you intend to return to Canada once the individuals you wish to sponsor are granted permanent residency.
    • ➔ If you are a permanent resident living outside of Canada, you cannot sponsor someone.
    • ➔ If you can demonstrate that you are not receiving social assistance due to a disability, you are able to sponsor anyone as long as you can provide their basic needs.

      Your spouse, partner, dependent kid, and their dependent children (if applicable) must present the following evidence to prove they are eligible:

      • whatever extra information we seek throughout processing
      • including all necessary forms and documents submitted with their application, including

      • Biometrics

      You must bring the following items to your appointment for the medical examination:

      • acceptable identification

      • a certified copy of the child's birth certificate if they are under 18 years old.
